A Forever Home for
Every Horse.
At CARE Farm Sanctuary, horses are free from expectations, work, and exploitation. Here, they are given lifelong safety, compassion, and the freedom to simply be horses.
Many of the horses who come to CARE Farm Sanctuary have spent years working for humans. Some are retired due to age, injury, or illness. Others came from neglectful situations or families who could no longer care for them.
Here, horses are no longer expected to perform, carry riders, or "earn their keep." They are given the opportunity to heal rest, socialize, and live peacefully within their herd.

A Philosophy Rooted in Compassion.
CARE Farm Sanctuary does not adopt out riding horses or operate a riding program.
Instead, we believe horses deserve dignity, autonomy, and lifelong respect regardless of whether they can be ridden or worked.
Our horses are valued not for what they can provide to humans, but for who they are as individuals.

Connection Without Expectations.
We encourage meaningful, non-ridden relationships built through quiet companionship, trust, positive interactions, and simply spending time together.
Our horses are always given the choice to interact with visitors. When a horse chooses connection freely, the experience can be deeply powerful and healing for both horse and human.

Spanky
Spanky is a Mini Horse with a big personality. He joined the farm sanctuary family in 2010 after deciding he no longer wanted to be a child’s riding pony, expressing his opposition through nipping and bucking. Since arriving at our sanctuary, he has settled in beautifully and now happily accepts all the love and affection he receives from children and visitors alike.
Spanky adores his fellow hooved friends and especially enjoys organizing spirited evening games of chase around the paddock. Watching him race around with his many friends galloping close behind, is always a joyful sight. Round and round they go, bringing laughter and smiles to everyone who sees him.

Gypsy
Gypsy is a well-mannered girl who enjoys her horse friends and the freedom to simply be her unapologetic self. Some days she comes up for long snuggles, and other days she gives you a look that clearly says, “I’m not peopling today.” Luckily for Gypsy, she has the freedom to choose exactly how she wants to spend her days at our farm sanctuary.
Before finding safety here, Gypsy was abandoned on the side of the road with chronic navicular disease, a condition that left her unable to be ridden. Thankfully, with targeted and regular hoof care that helps reduce pressure on the coffin bone in her foot, Gypsy is now comfortable, pain-free, and able to enjoy life on her own terms.
Whether she’s relaxing with her horse friends or soaking up affection when the mood strikes, Gypsy now has what every horse deserves; comfort, freedom, and the chance to simply be loved.

Gilly
Meet Gilly, a beautiful little Arab mix with a shy soul and the sweetest heart once she learns to trust you. 💕
Gilly adores her horse friends and the freedom of galloping with the herd across the big field and over the hills. One of her favorite things is pawing and splashing at the pond before wading in for a relaxing soak.
When Gilly first came to us in 2016, she was a frightened, shut-down horse who wasn’t sure the world could be kind. Watching her transform into the happy girl who now nickers with excitement when she sees a brush come out has been nothing short of incredible.
Seeing her truly live her best life reminds us why rescue matters, and we are so grateful to be part of her journey. ♥️

Xena
Xena is a senior donkey with a heart of gold. ♥️
She came to us in 2016 when her family had to move and sadly couldn’t take her along. Since arriving at the sanctuary, Xena has become a beloved part of the herd and a friend to everyone she meets, both donkey and horse alike.
If you hear a loud bray echoing over the hills, chances are Xena has spotted humans approaching and is requesting attention immediately. She absolutely loves being spoiled and is always excited for pets, brushing sessions, or a few veggie treats. This is one girl who is always happy to see you.
But Xena is more than just sweet, she’s also a fierce protector. She is constantly on alert for predators that don’t belong near her herd. We’ve watched her confidently lead the other donkeys as they chased coyotes right out of the pastures. She and her donkey friends play an important role in helping keep everyone safe.
Xena’s gentle heart, joyful spirit, and protective nature make her truly one of a kind, and we are so grateful she gets to spend her golden years surrounded by love, friendship, and peace.

Foxy
Foxy is a little horse with a very big heart. When she came to our sanctuary in 2012, she was suffering from a severe and painful condition called founder, caused by long-term dietary overload. The damage to her hooves was so extensive that she could not walk and had to be lifted into our trailer during her rescue. Her veterinarian contacted us as an alternative to euthanasia, hoping we could give her a second chance.
Once Foxy arrived, she immediately began intensive rehabilitation. She was placed on a carefully managed low-carb, low-sugar diet and given anti-inflammatory medications, circulation-support supplements, and regular therapeutic hoof care. To help relieve her pain, we created custom rubber-padded hoof boots so she could move more comfortably while healing.
Slowly but surely, Foxy began to recover. Within six months she was walking again, and by the end of her first year with us, she was running pain-free.
Today, Foxy continues to thrive. Although she requires lifelong special care and cannot graze on grass, she remains happy, healthy, full of personality, and winning the hearts of everyone she meets. This super cute little miniature mare has truly overcome the odds.
Foxy's sponsorship is $40 monthly which will provide hoof care, hay and supplement.

Buddha
Buddha is a senior horse who spent many years as a trusted trail horse. The countless miles she carried riders can be seen in her swayback, a quiet reminder of lasting tolls bestowed upon her.
Now enjoying a slower pace at the sanctuary, Buddha is mellow, thoughtful, and full of quiet affection. She loves spending time with her caregivers and will often nuzzle gently before resting her head on your shoulder and drifting peacefully to sleep.
One of Buddha’s greatest joys is her little pony friend, Cookie. The two can often be found slowly grazing side by side, moving together in perfect unison around the field. As evening settles in, they find a cozy spot to groom each other before settling in for the night.
After years of giving so much to others, Buddha now gets to enjoy the comfort, friendship, and gentle love she so deeply deserves.

Wyatt
Wyatt came to us as a youngster, only 3 years old. He had originally been bred and purchased for competitive jumping and dressage, but shortly after arriving at his new home it was discovered he had a birth defect that caused his cannon bone to be slightly twisted.
Although Wyatt wasn’t in pain and didn’t even have a limp, his “defect” meant he was no longer suitable for competition, and in that industry, that most often means a horse is discarded. Without sanctuary, Wyatt would have been euthanized.
We are so grateful we were able to give him the loving home he deserved. ♥️
Wyatt is truly a love bug. His heart is as big as he is tall, and he is as gentle as a puppy. His kindness knows no bounds. He shares a special bond with his best friend Steve, another giant sweetheart who also came from the competitive riding industry, and the two spend their days grazing side by side or grooming each other beneath the shade trees.
Wyatt absolutely loves people and is always ready to lean his head against you. He seems to instinctively know when someone needs a little cuddle therapy.
And honestly, we think his slightly crooked leg is his lucky charm. After all, it led him to a life filled with unconditional love instead of one built around expectations and performance. We are grateful every single day that this sweet, mellow fellow gets to live the happy, peaceful life he deserves.

Bootsy
Bootsy is one of the sweetest horses you could ever meet. She was raised by a young girl on her grandparents’ farm. When her girl grew up and left for college, the grandparents planned to keep Bootsy, but she developed chronic laminitis and needed specialized care they were unable to provide. That’s when she came to our farm sanctuary.
With the proper care, special diet, and lots of love, Bootsy is now completely healthy, pain-free, and thriving. Because of the deep bond she shared with her girl, she has always had a special love for children. She could stand for hours while kids pet and brush her, gently lowering her head so they can braid her mane and give her hugs.
Bootsy is a truly special horse with a heart full of gratitude and love. Her favorite thing in the world is receiving attention until her eyes slowly close, soaking in the safety, comfort, and affection she feels. Of course, a good carrot comes in a close second! She also enjoys grooming sessions with her best horse friend, Lafemme.
Gentle, loving, and kind to everyone she meets, Bootsy is a beautiful reminder of the healing power of compassion and care.

Rocket Fire
This gorgeous big fella is Rocket Fire. We can only imagine how, as a young colt, he must have run as fast as the wind through the fields.
When Rocket Fire came to us, he had already lost one eye due to an old untreated injury that left the eye ruptured beyond repair. Sadly, the vision in his remaining eye was also fading because of a condition known as moon blindness. Shortly after arriving at our farm sanctuary, Rocket Fire became completely blind.
Despite his challenges, he is happy. We do everything possible to ensure he enjoys an enriched life. He has a special area designed to keep him safe and comfortable, and he has learned his pasture so well that he confidently makes his way around it each day. He enjoys grazing on fresh grass, exploring hay bales, eating his senior mash feed, scratching on grooming posts, relaxing during grooming sessions and baths, practicing carrot stretches, and participating in other various enrichment activities.
Rocket Fire also has a companion pony named Ivey, whose friendship brings him comfort and joy.
His absolute favorite thing, though, is a good grooming with a stiff brush on his always-itchy bum. He leans into it with such enthusiasm that you have to brace yourself to avoid being pushed right over.
Rocket Fire is a beautiful example of resilience, trust, and the joy that can still be found when an animal is surrounded by patience, kindness, and love.

Eclipse
Eclipse is the proud matriarch of her large herd, and she takes her role very seriously. ♥️
She keeps everyone in line and somehow always makes sure things run smoothly. With her big personality, Eclipse is usually the very first to investigate when goodies are brought out to the herd.
She can run like the wind and is often seen leading the herd to safety whenever something unexpected happens. During storms or bad weather, Eclipse naturally gathers everyone together and guides them toward the barn or tree line for shelter. Her instincts are remarkable, and the other horses clearly trust her leadership.
When you meet Eclipse, it’s obvious she has found exactly where she belongs. Surrounded by so many horse friends who find comfort in knowing she is watching over them, she couldn’t be happier or more content with her life.
We are so grateful this beautiful girl gets to spend her days exactly as nature intended - free, loved, and leading the herd she calls family.
