In Loving Memory
Every animal who has ever called C.A.R.E. Farm Sanctuary home is family, and saying goodbye is hard. This page is our way of remembering the residents we've had to say goodbye to, each one missed every bit as much as they were loved. Many of them came to us from hard beginnings, but for as long as they were here, they knew safety, comfort, and love.
Emily Chickenson 🌈

Emily Chickenson was full of life and reminds us all how important it is to savor the good things and never let life's setbacks define us.
Emily came to C.A.R.E. Farm Sanctuary after developing a permanent disability that prevented her from walking like other chickens. But that never stopped her from embracing life. Using her wings, she fluttered wherever she wanted to go, and with her beak she happily scratched and foraged for tasty bugs. Emily was a social bird who was always happy to see her friends.

One of Emily's greatest pleasures was a freshly prepared dust bath filled with her favorite blend of herbs, wood ash, diatomaceous earth, and coconut coir. Whether she was soaking up the sunshine, searching for treats, or enjoying a luxurious spa day, Emily approached every moment with enthusiasm and joy.

Emily truly lived each day to the fullest, showing us that happiness isn't about what challenges we face, it's about making the most of every precious day.

Sadly, Emily passed away in her sleep in early August. She hadn't been sick, and was just resting in one of her favorite spots when Melissa checked on her that night. It's a hard loss, but we know she had many happy years with us. She was older, and we believe it was simply natural causes. We were lucky to have known such a special friend.
